The top of this his handmade Virginia hardwood box is cut from a natural-edged piece of birch burl. The box is made from quartersawn white oak. The walnut splines at the sides add extra stability to the structure as well as a visually pleasing color contrast to the finished piece. The mitered corners are “book-matched”, providing a continual flow of the oak grain on the sides of the box. A conversion varnish finish provides durability and carefree cleaning/maintenance.
